Concept Design Services provide to the Owner a comprehensive definition of the mechanical, electrical, energy-efficiency, and environmental-responsiveness requirements for project design and construction. Concept Design services by the E-Cube team of Professional Engineers, Energy Engineers, and Commissioning Specialists include energy and/or life-cycle cost studies to compare alternative system approaches as well as preliminary LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ? USGBC) analysis. LEED ratings are refined and tracked during the design completion and construction phases of the project. The Concept Design services open a number of possibilities. The Concept Design document provides a detailed minimum "scope of design" to a design-build contractor, or is used to define the bid requirements to competing design-build contractors. The design is also incorporated into construction documents by a traditional Architect-consultant or Mechanical-Electrical Engineering design team, or used by the Owner to define the scope requirements to a number of competing teams.

Benefits to Owners, Design Professionals, and Contractors:
Ensure that significant energy savings opportunities are identified,
  properly evaluated, and thoroughly documented.
Bring Integrated Design issues to the fore-front including optimization
of savings from load-reducing sustainable design building processes, features and concepts (such as integrated daylighting).
Begin the construction documents phase with a detailed understanding
of the selected system concepts and energy savings opportunities.
Provide preliminary LEED and Energy Star ratings and consultation
services to start sustainable design projects on the right path.
Improve the technical capability of the team

Specific related services:
Energy saving opportunities analyses, computer modeling and
simulation of buildings and energy consuming systems.
Preliminary evaluation of building heating and cooling loads
Systems analysis, energy audits, life-cycle cost studies to assist
in comparison of alternatives, and sustainable design consultation.
Preliminary sizing of major system components
Preliminary evaluation of system space requirements
Evaluation of design integration among mechanical, electrical,
architectural, and energy-saving systems and features
Integration with Commissioning Services
System schematics and flow diagrams including quick free-hand sketches
