What is LEED?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a third-party green building certification program with standards developed to quantify sustainability success and reward the efforts of certain projects. Designed by the U.S Green Building Council (USGBC), the LEED certification focuses on a rigorous set of criteria and specifications to design, construct, and maintain buildings in both a cost-effective and environmentally compliant way. Recognized as the worldwide standard for measuring building sustainability, projects pursuing LEED certification earn one of four LEED rating levels: Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum.
What are the Benefits of Becoming LEED Certified?
LEED certification provides a framework to create highly efficient buildings that have a reduced impact on the environment. LEED-certified buildings lower operating and maintenance costs, increase asset value and decrease risk. With new environmental sustainability expectations from the public, studies show these buildings also have increased occupancy rates and increased tenant satisfaction. Having a LEED certification is invaluable in today’s market as it attracts government incentives, as well as boosts overall interest from investors and customers.
