Central Chiller Plant Replacement
The City of Chicago working with the Department of Aviation and their owner’s representative, CARE Plus, are leading a major effort to replace the central chilled water plant at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. The project is being conducted in multiple phases, while maintaining full chilled water operation and service to the airport – and effort that requires close coordination with facility operating staff, construction teams, and commissioning review/testing. Below is a listing of major equipment included in and commissioned for this project:
- 4 new chillers at 4000 tons each and associated VFDs
- New local control panels and control devices for 4 existing chillers
- South cooling tower – upgraded fans, VFDs, control valves, dampers, panel
- New primary chilled water pumps and VFDs at 1000 HP each,
- New condenser water pumps and VFDs at 700 HP each
- New free cooling heat exchangers
- 16 zone chilled water booster pump stations each including 2-4 pumps at 50 to 200 HP
- Balance of Plant Central DDC Control System
- Normal and emergency power distribution
