Motorola Mobility has relocated and consolidated its current suburban operations to approximately 604,000 SF at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, IL. The new space occupies the top 4 floors (floors 16-19) and represents the largest Chicago lease since 2005. It is home to 2,000 Motorola staff and consists of office spaces, ancillary spaces, fitness center, recreation spaces, conference space with a roof deck, and 70,000 SF of technical research & design lab space. Lab spaces include state-of-the-art anechoic chambers, insulated from all exterior noise for device testing, as well as test apparatus for durability testing.
The facility was designed by Gensler Architects and Environmental Systems Design and incorporates a number of energy-efficient and sustainable design features including high-efficiency mechanical (e.g. free cooling, energy recovery, chilled beams, etc.), electrical and plumbing equipment, low-flow plumbing fixtures and high efficiency lighting. The project is anticipating a LEED-NC Gold rating.
E Cube provided LEED design phase and construction phase commissioning services in the interest of achieving the Fundamental Cx Prerequisite and Enhanced Commissioning Credit. For the construction phase, E Cube led a comprehensive, multi-stage commissioning process for the mechanical (HVAC), building automation, lighting controls, and plumbing systems.
