E Cube provided commissioning services on the 183,000-sf St. Francis Medical Center Relocation & Expansion project. The 5-story expansion included the addition of 25 emergency department beds, 21 neonatal intensive care beds, and three new operating rooms, as well as space to add more beds in the future. This project also included the addition of mechanical equipment (boiler, chiller, cooling tower, etc.) to the Central Utility Plant (CUP) to increase heating and cooling capacity necessary to condition the expansion. The CUP expansion included a new 750-ton centrifugal chiller, a 17,250 lb/hr steam boiler, new cooling tower, replacement of existing chilled and heating water pumps, and new heating and chilled water heat exchangers. Careful coordination and scheduling allowed for the CUP equipment to be successfully incorporated into the existing systems of this critical facility.
As Commissioning Authority, E Cube is commissioned the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and medical gas systems. E Cube developed the Commissioning Specifications and Plan. The plan consisted of comprehensive, multi-stage commissioning process for the mechanical (HVAC), electrical, HVAC controls, and lighting controls systems. E Cube also provided Monitoring & Verification Services (M&V) and performed a Blackout Test to ensure proper operation of the expansion upon a power loss.
