Palomar Medical Center West

Location: Escondido, CA
Project Floor Area: 750,000 SF
Completion: May 2012
LEED Rating: LEED Principles

This was one of the largest hospital construction projects in the U.S. The new campus has already captured the attention of healthcare professionals worldwide for its use of natural light, and space designed to speed healing. Natural features include a signature 1.5-acre green roof and terrace above the surgery, cardiology and interventional radiology suites, designed to deflect light and heat to provide a natural cooling system for the facility.

E Cube provided fundamental and enhanced commissioning services to meet the principles of LEED for Healthcare and the Green Guide for Healthcare. We started with design phase commissioning and continued through occupancy. Commissioned systems included a large central plant, fire alarm system, fire protection, smoke mode systems, lighting controls, electrical, medical gas and nurse call. We also provided significant assistance with the Office of Statewide Hospital Planning and Development (OSHPD) certification process.
