Overview
Virgin Group, Lionstone Development and The John Buck Company led a full renovation of a historic 1928 Art Deco building, known as the Old Dearborn Bank Building. Located in the heart of Chicago’s East Loop District, it is the new home of the four-star Virgin Hotel Chicago. The facility includes 250 state-of-the-art guest rooms, meeting rooms, rooftop pool and common spaces, two restaurants, and a wellness facility.
E Cube is provided LEED Fundamental Commissioning services for the following systems and design features: Central BAS, mechanical, lighting controls, and domestic water. To accommodate the fast-paced schedule of this project, the owner hired E Cube to provide oversight and assistance to contractors in key coordination and schedule planning activities to ensure an on-time and on-budget delivery.
Key systems include district chilled water from Thermal Chicago, high-efficiency 4-pipe fan coil units in each hotel room, high-efficiency condensing hot water boilers, high-efficiency domestic water heaters, heat recovery air-handling units a full DDC building automation system, and energy-efficient lighting controls.
