Li Ka Shing Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences
This premier national research lab is home to over 400 scientists focusing on bio-medical research in the areas of cancer, brain diseases, and infectious diseases, and stem cell biology. The facility includes research and teaching labs, classrooms, offices and auditorium space. The Li Ka Shing Center incorporates sustainable features throughout — from its auditorium’s green roof (planted with vegetation attractive to native butterflies and bees, selected with input from the UC Botanical Garden) to reclaimed-wood paneling (harvested from a local demolished warehouse) and low-emitting office carpeting and rubber lab floors.
As the Commissioning Authority, E Cube developed and executed a detailed LEED commissioning plan consisting of a comprehensive, multi-stage phased commissioning process for the mechanical (HVAC), electrical, HVAC controls, lighting controls, fume hoods, and emergency backup systems. Additionally, E Cube assisted with the certification of the facility’s BSL-3 and vivarium lab spaces.
